It’s easy to make your office greener. Here are a few things that you can start to do now if you don‘t already. Talk with your colleagues and encourage them to do so as well.
When you leave for the day, turn off your computer from the power strip. Computers and many other appliances these days have built-in circuits that keep electricity flowing, so your machine powers up quickly when you turn it on. These circuits waste a lot of energy, so just flipping the computer’s on/off switch isn’t enough. If you don’t have a power strip, get one.
Be careful printing, as jams or unnecessary printing waste paper. Refill or recycle printer ink and toner cartridges to save your business money. Many bills your company receives can be paid online, saving both paper and postage.
Turn off your computer if you’re going to be away from your desk for more than an hour.
To conserve energy, walk down the stairs at lunch time, instead of taking the elevator. If you bring lunch from home, switch bottled water and plastic bags for filtered water and reusable containers.
