Paint Pour Project
Fall 2023
The Paint Pour Project is unique to ClimateYou’s classroom experience and is a surprising new way to contemplate climate change. In November 2023, City Tech students in the Paint Pour started with infrared images they recorded in an outdoor heat urban island lab exercise investigating local land surface temperatures. These images and others of droughts, floods, wild fires or statistical data served as a springboard for each student to create an original work of art.
‘Paint-Pours’ was developed by environmental artist Kate Doyle, known for her highly creative visual environments based on climate change. The project challenges students to take abstract, empirical information and other climate change related images and transform them into tangible works of art using their personal perception, instinct and imagination. Using the free-flowing medium of paint while considering climate research and events enables students to gain a deeper understanding of climate change in both scientific and emotional ways.
